Contrary to what some of our friends might think, we don’t actually eat out that much, but last week we had dinner in Ye Shakespeare on Victoria Street in Bristol (one of the oldest in the city apparently).
A couple of friends from Exmouth had managed to win a voucher for dinner there but weren’t going to be able to use it before it expired, and very kindly offered it to us.
And very pleasant it was too.
I had the fish and chips, which came with plenty of chips, salad and tartar sauce, a small pot of mushy peas, and a nicely cooked bit of fish.
SWMBO unsurprisingly went for the steak – you’ll see this is a recurring theme. Ordered medium-rare, it came out as one of the rarest steaks I’ve ever seen in this country – and it was nicely seared and decently tender. Again, plenty of chips and salad, plus a big mushroom and several cooked cherry tomatoes.
Washed down with a couple of glasses of Malbec each, we left full and satisfied. And then had to wait an hour for a bus…
